Editorial policy
What goes on these pages, where it comes from, how often it is checked, and what to do when it is wrong.
Nothing here is paid for
Listings are free and editorial. No business pays to be listed, and no business can pay to be higher up a page or to be marked as a pick. If sponsorship ever appears on these sites it will be labelled as sponsorship and it will sit beside the listings, never inside them.
Where the facts come from
Inside Berthoud takes its facts from the operator’s own page first: a restaurant’s own site for its hours, a town’s own calendar for a council meeting, an organiser’s own listing for a festival. Where a business has no site, or a site with no hours, the listing simply has none. A guess that looks like a fact is worse than a gap.
Review sites and business-listing directories are not used as sources. Their hours are user-editable and frequently stale, and their photographs are not ours to publish.
Everything carries its date
Every place and every event records the source it was read from and the day it was last checked against that source, and both are shown on the listing. A weekly report flags anything that has gone ninety days without a re-check. Hours go stale faster than anything else on these sites, so the operator’s own page is always the record and the listing is a pointer to it.
Events
No event is listed without a source. Dates are checked against the weekday they claim to fall on, which is what catches a page that is quietly last year’s. A recurring event is stored as one entry per occurrence, so what you see is the date it actually happens rather than a rule you have to apply yourself. Past events drop off on their own.
Photographs
Every photograph on these sites is either public domain or openly licensed, and every one is recorded with its source, its licence and whether credit is required. Credit is shown where the licence asks for it. Businesses’ own marketing photographs, and photographs from review sites, are not used.
Independence
Inside Berthoud is a government site, a chamber of commerce or any public body, and it does not speak for one. Anything civic links out to the official source rather than being paraphrased here.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and it will be fixed, usually within a day or two. Corrections are made quietly to listings, because a wrong phone number does not need a public notice; a correction to an article is noted on the article. There is no appeal process for being left out and no payment that changes it — if a place belongs in a guide, say so and it goes in.
